A Week in the House

March 27, 2020

Dear friends,

This week the Campus House team gathered around our individual screens for our first all-staff meeting since working remotely. The time to connect was rich, albeit paired with the recognizable sense of grief that life is not as it should be and that creation groans, anticipating God’s redemption and glory (Rom. 8:18-25). In the midst of what looks and feels like chaos, we continue to reorient ourselves toward the Lord, who is still enthroned and sovereign. As we partner with you to love Purdue students in this uncertain season, we wanted to share some important updates with you, members of the House.

Campus House said an early good-bye to the Mushroom.
After the Governor announced the stay-at-home order effective March 25th, the leadership team made the decision to expedite our move to 320 North Street, originally scheduled for April 4th-5th. Within 36 hours, a handful of staff and Joshua House residents moved us into the former church building across from the Union while practicing social distancing. This news may come as a surprise, and even a disappointment, for some of you. The House has been, in Rob’s words, a canvas, a shelter, and a home for thousands, and we still plan to celebrate the legacy of God’s faithfulness in this space with you in an online medium. We’ll have more details about what that will look like soon. In the meantime, we invite you to join us for Living Room Worship starting this Sunday, an interactive time of prayer, worship, teaching, and reflection recorded and posted Sunday mornings on YouTube. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to access those each week.

We asked you to support Greyhouse, and you came through.
Your donations and purchases of coffee, tea, and merchandise significantly increased sales in a matter of days, enabling us to, at this point, remain open and bless the Purdue community. Thank you for coming alongside Greyhouse in this difficult season. Your gifts and prayers have deeply encouraged the staff, who are working incredibly hard to demonstrate extraordinary love and hospitality to customers within new limitations. Learn more about how you can help Greyhouse through monthly coffee subscriptions and other purchases.

Now we want to hear from you.
Paul writes in Colossians 4:2, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

• How is prayer sustaining you and directing your gaze to Jesus?
• How are you being watchful in your relationships, daily rhythms, words, and actions?
• What are you thankful for right now?

No one is unaffected by this pandemic, and we know that many of you are facing steep challenges in your homes and workplaces. In light of our current reality, we want to be an extension of family to you. If we can pray for you in specific ways, feel free to connect with a staff member or fill out the online prayer request form.

Your support the past few months has been critical as we simultaneously navigate ministry online and make room for a new House this semester. Our staff––and our students––are eternally grateful.

In Christ,

The Campus House Staff
